Many women feel like facial hair is a “hairy” little secret. Shaving, creams and plucking are a temporary fix but at Advanced Life Clinic, we can help you permanently get rid of unwanted facial hair so you can put your best face forward.
Facial hair is actually a common complaint with many women and can be caused by a number of things. For some facial hair is normal; it’s just a genetic trait that runs through families. Women, particularly those of Middle Eastern or Indian descent, are more likely to have facial hair. An abnormal cause of facial hair can be a hormone imbalance. PCOS is the most common hormonal imbalance that accounts for facial hair but even then, it’a only the source of about 25% or problems. A common myth is that if you fix the hormones, you fix the hair. Unfortunately that’s generally not the case. Correcting a hormone imbalance can have many benefits, including slowing the growth of unwanted hair, but it won’t make the problem go away. With the hormonal or abnormal facial hair, women may notice just a few coarse hairs on the chin and/or upper lip or they may experience a full male type of beard that begins with pregnancies or middle age. Patients who just ethnically or genetically have more or darker facial hair will usually see the hair develop at puberty.
Unwanted facial hair leads many women to spend hours every day plucking the hair or spending years, and great expense, on waxing or threading. Let’s face it; many of us go to great lengths to hide this “hairy situation.” If you’re ready to try a permanent and virtually painless solution to facial hair, we’re here to help at Advanced Life Clinic. Laser hair removal can be an effective, and permanent, way to take care of the problem.
With laser hair removal, the treatments are spaced out to work with the natural cycle of hair growth; generally about six weeks apart. Treatments are done in our office and require a brief appointment and offer no interruption to your day. One of the benefits of laser hair removal is that no one will have to know you’re going through the process and you can continue to trim or shave as needed though no plucking or waxing is allowed. The only limitations are that the laser can’t target gray or blonde hair and it can’t prevent new hair from developing in the future.
If you’d like more information, please see our series of videos on YouTube that address laser hair removal.
My advice is to stop worrying with facial hair. If you think there may be a problem, by all means have a hormone evaluation. I do encourage you to consider laser hair removal as a permanent solution to this very common problem. As always, I invite you to call my office with questions or to schedule your no-cost, no-obligation consulation. Get ready to put your best face forward and to be the best you!
