At Advanced Life Clinic, we offer many solutions to help you look and feel your very best. For those who want to put their best face forward, chemical peels are the way to “glow.” Today, Bonnie Maples, our licensed medical esthetician and GloMinerals consultant will walk you through the peel process in this edition of Beauty by Bonnie.
There is no better way to transform and perk up a dull complexion than with a chemical peel. Peeling agents and formulations have changed over the years, but the basic principles of exfoliation remain the same. Our skin naturally sheds about every 28 days. Exfoliating peels stimulate the exfoliating cycle improving skin texture and clarity more quickly encouraging skin to renew, refresh and bring out that gorgeous glow we all crave. Chemical peels offer a way to help even out skin tones and reduce fine lines. They can also aid in the treatment of skin imperfections such as irregular pigmentation, sun damage, acne, mild scarring and rough texture. Peels also help rejuvenate, refresh and revive your skin; helping with hydration and balancing natural oil production.
To help you get the most from your peel, I’ve got some tips to take you through the peel process.
Although peels can be done without prepping the skin with products prior to procedure, it is ideal to use retinols, lightening-agents and or topical acne products, depending upon individual skin condition, for two weeks or more prior to a peel to allow it to be more effective. Other than that, there’s essentially no prep for the peel.
Wear a sunscreen every day with a SPF of 30 or higher
Cleanse with a gentle cleanser free of retinols, glycolic or salicylic acids for 10 days
Discontinue use of all retinols, topical vitamin c, skin-lightening agents and acne products for 10 days
Let the peeling process take it’s natural course. Do not scrub, pick or exfoliate the skin
Drink plenty of water and avoid caffeine
Apply a light moisturizer if skin is very dry or irritated
