What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are products that can be used to restore a youthful appearance to the face. They are minimally invasive injectable medications that can help you get the look you want without downtime or surgery. Depending on the product used, dermal fillers can fill in areas that have lost volume or they can help to stimulate natural collagen production in areas that have started to age. While cosmetic fillers are temporary, they can work quickly and can be reinjected when you need another boost.
What Can Dermal Fillers Treat?
Dermal Fillers Under Eyes
Lack of volume under the eyes as a result of collagen loss can often result in shadows or dark circles that can make you look more tired than you feel. By using dermal fillers under the eyes, we can minimize these shadows, smooth out wrinkles, and make your face appear more rested and revitalized.
Dermal Fillers for Lips
If your lips have a naturally thin shape or if they have thinned as a result of aging, certain fillers are designed to make the lips plump and full. Dermal fillers for lips can also resolve lipstick lines and other lines around the lips that can make your face look older.
Dermal Fillers for Cheeks
The cheeks are one of the most common areas to lose volume as you age. The fat pads that fill out the cheeks and temples can deplete over time. When combined with skin laxity, this can make the face look more sallow and thin. By restoring this volume with dermal fillers, the face can appear more youthful.
Dermal Fillers for Lines and Wrinkles
Certain lines and wrinkles can come as a result of increased skin laxity and loss of volume. Many of these lines can be treated effectively with injectable products. These lines can include nasolabial folds, marionette lines, lipstick lines, bunny lines, crow’s feet, and more. We can let you know if your lines and wrinkles would be best treated with fillers or with a different product.
What Are the Different Types of Dermal Fillers?
There are two types of fillers that are widely used in cosmetics. The first is hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Juvéderm, which are used primarily to restore volume by filling the space. The second is fillers such as Sculptra® that stimulate the production of collagen in the skin. We offer both types of fillers at our practice and they can be useful in treating a variety of concerns.
Juvéderm
Juvéderm is one of the top hyaluronic acid fillers available today. This collection of fillers offers different products that are suitable for filling in lines, smoothing, and lifting the face. This line offers thinner products that offer natural movements for dynamic areas as well as products with more substance for contouring and volumizing larger areas.
- Juvéderm Ultra XC: This product can be perfect for adding more fullness to the lips. If you have thinning lips, uneven lips, or you just want to plump them up, we may recommend Juvéderm Ultra XC.
- Juvéderm Voluma® XC: If you want to add more volume or contour to your cheeks or chin, Juvéderm Voluma is a stable product can be injected deeper into the tissue to give you a boost of volume right where you want it.
- Juvéderm Volbella® XC: Volbella is another product that can be ideal for lip augmentation. It can also be used to correct fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth.
- Juvéderm Vollure® XC: This product can be used to correct lines and wrinkles. It is commonly used for nasolabial folds.
Sculptra
Sculptra is a product that is made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). Rather than providing immediate filling like a hyaluronic acid product, Sculptra is designed to improve areas over time through the stimulation of collagen in the injection area. The PLLA particles cause your body to have a controlled response. Fibroblasts sent to the area can begin producing new collagen. Over time, the area where the product was injected can fill out and look more refreshed and youthful.
Sculptra is FDA-approved for use in the nasolabial folds. We can also use it to help resolve marionette lines or chin wrinkles.
How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?
The length of time that cosmetic fillers last depends on the product. Sculptra has been studied to last an average of 2 years. Juvéderm fillers can last between 6 and 24 months depending on the particular product and how much is injected. For specific information about individual products, you can reach out to us.
