You might think exercising would zap your energy and if you’re already feeling low, it’s probably the last thing you feel like doing. Oddly enough, exercise has the opposite effect. Exercise increases circulation which gets more oxygen to your muscles and brain and energizes you!
Drinking more water is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to boost energy. Being slightly dehydrated slows the flow of oxygen to your brain and decreases your energy and metabolism . The old saying to drink eight glasses of water a day really does help.
Carbohydrates are your bodies main source of fuel and without them you feel tired and sluggish. But, make sure you are eating the right kind of carbs such as fruits and whole grains and avoid processed foods and sugar.
This seems obvious but it is very important to try to get good sleep to recharge your energy levels. To improve your sleep patterns, avoid strenuous exercise, caffeine and alcohol right before bed. Alcohol may make it easier to go to sleep but it actually decreases the deeper levels of sleep that are needed to truly re-energize.
As we age, our ability to get enough B12 from diet alone gets harder. We may eat as much as we used to but absorbing B12 gets more difficult for the body. We recommend getting weekly to monthly B12 in the form of an injection especially if you are over 40. B12 is a natural way to increase your body’s metabolism which leads to improved levels of energy.
