Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatment Using Photorejuvenation
IPL treatment improves the appearance of photo-aged skin and removes age spots (sun-induced freckles), most benign brown pigments, and redness caused by broken capillaries through a process called photorejuvenation for the face and body. This gentle, non-ablative procedure uses broad spectrum light to treat the face, chest, neck, and hands—virtually anywhere that sun damage shows. The process is ideal for patients with active lifestyles because:
- IPL treatments are quick, gentle, and non-invasive. There is no interruption of routine activities and minimal downtime.
- There is a very low risk of side effects.
- You can enjoy more even, luminous, younger-looking skin thanks to the removal of the age spots (sun-induced freckles) and broken capillaries.
- You can see dramatic results within a very short time.
How It Works
IPL treatment using photorejuvenation consists of full-face treatment or treatment of isolated body areas like the hands or chest. Regardless of the location, however, the process is the same. A broad spectrum of light in the visible and near-infrared range (from 515 nm up to about 1200 nm) is transmitted through a small, smooth, transparent handpiece that is gently placed over the skin. Cut-off filters in the handpiece change the wavelength range allowing it to be optimized for different applications and skin types. The light penetrates the tissue and is absorbed by either the blood when treating vascular lesions or the melanin when treating pigmented lesions, damaging them. After about four to six treatments administered at three-week intervals, the body’s natural processes then remove the injured tissue, giving the skin a more even and youthful appearance.
Where a laser utilizes light of one wavelength, IPL delivers light of multiple wavelengths. This makes the IPL treatment highly versatile, efficient, and cost effective in treating a variety of skin types and conditions.
